Some possibilites of computer art tools

'Computers are, for sure, practical and sophisticated tools that can ease our working process a lot', Segrelles says. 'However, there are two important issues we should consider. First, if we don't know of drawing and painting, the tool will not do that for us. Second, it is of the essence to have a pressure sensitive digitiser tablet so that we can work as we did on paper.'

'Due to the kind of artwork I make, computers bring several possibilities of different importance. One refers to speech bubbles. I have always painted my comic pages without balloons or onomatopoeia. Those were included before printing by the people in charge of making lettering and films, but now I can prepare them myself.

But it is in the painting process where I can take the best profit. I can improve the image a little bit -as with this one from the story 'Endora' in volume 10, Giants, where I included the light effects in the dragon...

Or have it finished while having a page roughly sketched with oils -as I did with the first images in 'The Drone', from volume 10 too.

Or even prepare a pencil sketch and then scan the image and colour it with the computer. These pictures from 'The Drone' followed this process.

Another possibility is to draw and paint it all with the computer, such as the plane below. That's the working process I follow now for The Mercenary graphic novels.'
