Computer art: intro

Tired of the time-consuming oil technique, Segrelles decided in 1998 to explore with computers for the creation of his graphic novels. As of today, Segrelles is delighted with the possibilities that this tool presents to his work.
He feels it is more comfortable than oil painting to create his images and, in addition, it facilitates for him to take all the publishing process personally. That process includes scanning and retouching images, lettering the speech-bubbles in the stories and delivering the finished work in a CD-ROM ready to film. However, he thinks that the most difficult issue of this technique is to obtain the textures of oil painting, and on that matter he is working now.
Segrelles uses a digitizer tablet which is sensible to pressure, and that allows him to draw and paint with image-editing software as if he did on paper.
The first album to include pages made by computer was THE MERCENARY 10: GIANTS, the story entitled 'The Drone' in particular. The cover of that volume was made partly with this tool (the figure of the main character, as well as the collage with the other elements). THE MERCENARY 11 was entirely painted with computer tools starting from a blank file, and Segrelles has been working in the same way for the following volumes in the series.

The images in this page belong to THE MERCENARY 11.
